The background of this excerpt from Mein Kampf is Hitler talking to all non-Jewish people, slandering the Jews and warning them about how dangerous the Jews are. He uses propaganda and rhetoric to convince the non-Jews of Germany. His propaganda and rhetoric was so powerful that he turned a whole nation against the Jews. Not only did he make the people hate the Jews, he turned all the hate into a horrible destruction of humanity. The reason many people trusted him was because he was a great speaker and he used propaganda really well.

Hitler uses pathos in this excerpt to scare the audience which was all non-Jews. He scares them into into hating the Jews. He uses pathos by saying " ... the personification of the devil as the symbol of all evil assumes the shape the Jew"(Hitler 1) The intended effect on the audience is to scare them, and make them afraid of what the Jews are capable of. He scares them into believing that they have to kill the Jews before the Jews cause destruction or worse, kill them.

Hitler, in my opinion doesn't have good ethos because I know what he did and what would transpire because of him. If I didn't know that he would cause the Holocaust, he probably would have had good ethos. If I was alive back then, I probably would have trusted him because he was the leader of Germany. I wouldn't have known what was going to happen later on, which would be devastating. Only if someone could have known what he'd do, everything could have been prevented.
